Eldorado 8C
Eldorado Electrodata Corp was a company making measuring instruments and small computers. They went into the Calculator business, like many other companies, in the 70's. The model 8C was a big calculator, with VFD display, and almost the size of a rugular computer keyboard.
The inside reveals that they were using a TMS0103 from Texas Instruments, but the rest of the design was basic, with a lot of space wasted in this huge box:
The interesting part obout this calculator is that we don't see a lot of them, and it is a rather rare model.
With a price of $349 when it came out, the 8C was a rather pricey model, having only the 4 basic operations. This didn't help for marketing the device.
Later came the 8K, director Two, with a smaller footprint and a Gas discharge display. They were more popular, but ending up costing the company a lot of money because of a design flaw in the display.
